He opened my eyes…

To Hope

They came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. ⁴⁷ When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” ⁴⁸ Many warned him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more, “Have mercy on me, Son of David.”

To Courage

Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man and said to him, “Have courage! Get up; he’s calling for you.”

To Compassion

Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they followed him.

To Faith

He threw off his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus. ⁵¹ Then Jesus answered him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Rabboni,”^[l] the blind man said to him, “I want to see.”⁵² Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has saved you.” Immediately he could see and began to follow Jesus on the road.

Miracles: The Messages In The Miracle: Luke 5:1-11

 

1.  Jesus Uses The Unexpected

As the crowd was pressing in on Jesus to hear God’s word, he was standing by Lake Gennesaret. He saw two boats at the edge of the lake; the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the land. Then he sat down and was teaching the crowds from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”

2.  Jesus Seeks Our Surrender

“Master,” Simon replied, “we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I’ll let down the nets.”

3.  Jesus Blesses Beyond Belief

When they did this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets began to tear. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

4.  Jesus Performs To Preach

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!”  For he and all those with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s partners.  “Don’t be afraid,” Jesus told Simon. “From now on you will be catching people.” Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed him.

Miracles: The Touch: Mark 5:21-43

 

When Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a large crowdgathered around him while he was by the sea. ²² One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet ²³ and begged him earnestly, “My little daughter is dying. Come and lay your hands on her so that she can get well and live.” ²⁴ So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd was following and pressing against him.²⁵ Now a woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years ²⁶ had endured much under many doctors. She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse. ²⁷ Having heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothing. ²⁸ For she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I’ll be made well.” ²⁹ Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher anymore?”³⁶ When Jesus overheard^[c] what was said, he told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe.” ³⁷ He did not let anyone accompany him except Peter, James, and John, James’s brother. ³⁸ They came to the leader’s house, and he saw a commotion—people weeping and wailing loudly. ³⁹ He went in and said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.” ⁴⁰ They laughed at him, but he put them all outside. He took the child’s father, mother, and those who were with him, and entered the place where the child was. ⁴¹ Then he took the child by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum”which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, get up”). ⁴² Immediately the girl got upand began to walk. (She was twelve years old.) At this they were utterly astounded.

…who by faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the raging of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, gained strength in weakness, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight. Women received their dead, raised to life again.

Champion: The Power Of Everybody: Hebrews 11:30-31

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after being marched around by the Israelites for seven days. By faith Rahab the prostitute welcomed the spies in peace and didn’t perish with those who disobeyed.

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”“Neither,” he replied. “I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.” Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked him, “What does my lord want to say to his servant?”The commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did that.

Early on the seventh day, they started at dawn and marched around the city seven times in the same way. That was the only day they marched around the city seven times.  After the seventh time, the priests blew the trumpets, and Joshua said to the troops, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city…So the troops shouted, and the trumpets sounded. When they heard the blast of the trumpet, the troops gave a great shout, and the wall collapsed.

1.         Discover Your Dreams

Then Joseph had a dream. When he told it to his brothers, they hated him even more. 6 He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: 7 There we were, binding sheaves of grain in the field. Suddenly my sheaf stood up, and your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.”8 “Are you really going to reign over us?” his brothers asked him. “Are you really going to rule us?” So they hated him even more because of his dream and what he had said.9 Then he had another dream and told it to his brothers. “Look,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun, moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”10 He told his father and brothers, and his father rebuked him. “What kind of dream is this that you have had?” he said. “Am I and your mother and your brothers really going to come and bow down to the ground before you?” 11 His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

2.         Hang On To Your Dreams

…So Joseph was there in prison.  But the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him. He granted him favor with the prison warden. 22 The warden put all the prisoners who were in the prison under Joseph’s authority, and he was responsible for everything that was done there. 23 The warden did not bother with anything under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him, and the Lord made everything that he did successful.

3.         Help Others Fulfill Their Dreams

Then the chief cupbearer said to Pharaoh, “Today I remember my faults.  Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and he put me and the chief baker in the custody of the captain of the guards.  He and I had dreams on the same night; each dream had its own meaning.  Now a young Hebrew, a slave of the captain of the guards, was with us there. We told him our dreams, he interpreted our dreams for us, and each had its own interpretation.  It turned out just the way he interpreted them to us: I was restored to my position, and the other man was hanged.”

They embalmed him and placed him in a coffin in Egypt.
