Kingdomology: Unlocked Kingdom: Matthew 16:13-20; 18:18-20

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”15 “But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am?”16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”17 Jesus responded, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven.18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven.”20 Then he gave the disciples orders to tell no one that he was the Messiah.
Matthew 16:13-20 (CSB)

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
Matthew 16:18 (CSB)

1. GOD GAVE ME KEYS SO I COULD UNLOCK GATES.

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven.”
Matthew 16:19 (CSB)

KEYS GIVE ACCESS
KEYS GIVE AUTHORITY

Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.
Hebrews 4:16 (CSB)

KEYS GIVE POWER
KEYS GIVE FREEDOM
KEYS GIVE PARTNERSHIP

“…they will pick up snakes; if they should drink anything deadly, it will not harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.”
Mark 16:18 (CSB)

2. GOD GAVE ME AUTHORITY SO I COULD BIND AND LOOSE.

Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you lose on earth will have been loosed in heaven. 19 Again, truly I tell you, if two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.
Matthew 18:18-20 (CSB)

I will give you the keys (authority) of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth will have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth will have [already] been loosed in heaven.”
Matthew 16:19 (AMP)

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.
Matthew 18:20 (CSB)

Kingdomology: Citizens of Heaven: Philippians 3:20, 1 Peter 2:11-12

1. I am an ALIEN on earth.

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, strangers in the world.
1 Peter 1:1 (NIV)

I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
1 Peter 2:11-12 (NIV)

2. I am a CITIZEN in Heaven.

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:20 (NIV)

3. How do citizens of heaven live on Earth?

“My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”
John 18:35-36 (CSB)

Work on the present

Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:12 (CSB)

Forget the past

Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead…
Philippians 3:13 (CSB)

Get excited about the future

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14 (NIV)

…we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:20 (CSB)

Kingdomology: Jesus Is King: John 18:28-38

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star at its rising and have come to worship him.”
Matthew 2:2 (CSB)

“Rabbi,” Nathanael replied, “You are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel!”
John 1:49 (CSB)

To keep this command without fault or failure until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 God will bring this about in his own time. He is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords.
1 Timothy 6:14-15 (CSB)

Then Pilate went back into the headquarters, summoned Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Are you asking this on your own, or have others told you about me?”35 “I’m not a Jew, am I?” Pilate replied. “Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?”36 “My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”
John 18:33-36 (CSB)

JESUS IS KING

1. Jesus is KING over the spiritual realm

“My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”
John 18:37 (CSB)

2. Jesus is the KING over Truth

“Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”38 “What is truth?” said Pilate.
John 18:37-38 (CSB)

“It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.”
2 John 1:4 (NIV)

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
Ephesians 1:5

I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.
1 John 2:12

Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare, and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11

3. Jesus is KING over me

Jesus replied, “I was born for this, and I have come into the world for this: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” “What is truth?” said Pilate.
John 18:37-38 (CSB)

…He must increase, but I must decrease.
John 3:30 (ESV)

Kingdomology: Priority Pivot: Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
Matthew 6:33 (CSB)

1) How Do I Make God’s Kingdom A Priority?

…for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 14:17 (CSB)

2) Why Is Kingdom Living A Challenge?

“Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing?” Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? 27 Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don’t labor or spin thread.”.
Matthew 6:25-28 (CSB)

3) What Are the Rewards Of Kingdom Living?

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
Matthew 6:33 (CSB)
