The Heart Of A Who: Love: John 13:34

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
 John 13:34 (NIV)

1. God’s Love is Powerful

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
1 John 4:7-10 (NIV)

2. God’s Love is Attractional

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
1 John 4:11-12 (NIV)

3. God’s Love is Spiritual

This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
1 John 4:13-16 (NIV)

The Heart Of A Who: Encouragement: 1 Thessalonians 4:18

Therefore encourage one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4:18 (CSB)

But encourage each other daily…
Hebrews 3:13 (CSB)

Encouraging People…

1. Give Glory To God

From there they sailed back to Antioch where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. After they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported everything God had done with them and that he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. And they spent a considerable time with the disciples.
Acts 14:26-27 (CSB)

2. Inspire Faith Filled Living

For there was not a needy person among them because all those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of what was sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet. This was then distributed to each person as any had need. Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus by birth, the one the apostles called Barnabas (which is translated Son of Encouragement), sold a field he owned, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
Acts 4:34-37 (CSB)

3. See The Best In People

Now those who had been scattered as a result of the persecution that started because of Stephen made their way as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. But there were some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord. News about them reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to travel as far as Antioch. When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged all of them to remain true to the Lord with devoted hearts…
Acts 11:19-23 (CSB)

When he arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, since they did not believe he was a disciple. Barnabas, however, took him and brought him to the apostles and explained to them how Saul had seen the Lord on the road and that the Lord had talked to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken boldly in the name of Jesus. Saul was coming and going with them in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.
Acts 9:26-28 (CSB)

After some time had passed, Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s go back and visit the brothers and sisters in every town where we have preached the word of the Lord and see how they’re doing.” Barnabas wanted to take along John Mark. But Paul insisted that they should not take along this man who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone on with them to the work. They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed off to Cyprus.
Acts 15:36-41 (CSB)

The Heart Of A Who: Guidance: Romans 15:13-16

We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ.
Colossians 1:28 (NASB)

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. And concerning you, my brethren, I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able also to admonish one another. But I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God, to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13-16 (NASB)

How Should I Admonish/Guide Others?

1) Right Heart

Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears.
Acts 20:31 (NASB)

2) Right Knowledge

…I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able also to admonish one another.
Romans 15:14 (NASB)

3) Right Character

My brothers and sisters, I myself am convinced about you that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to instruct one another.
Romans 15:14 (CSB)

Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged.  For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use. Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye?  Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a beam of wood in your own eye? Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:1-5 (CSB)

The Heart of A Who: Honor: Romans 12:10

1. WHAT IS HONOR?

…Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10 (NIV)

2. WHO—HONOR ONE ANOTHER

…Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10 (NIV)

Honor Spouses

Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in

an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
1 Peter 3:7 (CSB)

Honor Parents/Children

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right.  Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.
Ephesians 6:1-3 (CSB)

Honor Spiritual Leaders

The elders who are good leaders are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says: Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain, and the worker is worthy of his wages.
1 Timothy 5:17-18 (CSB)

Honor Everyone

Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the Emperor.
1 Peter 2:17 (CSB)

3. HOW—PUTTING PEOPLE ABOVE SELF

…Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10 (NIV)

Marriage is to be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled…
Hebrews 13:4 (CSB)

The fear of the Lord is what wisdom teaches, and humility comes before honor.
Proverbs 15:33 (CSV)
