The Heart Of A Who: Love: John 13:34

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
 John 13:34 (NIV)

1. God’s Love is Powerful

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
1 John 4:7-10 (NIV)

2. God’s Love is Attractional

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
1 John 4:11-12 (NIV)

3. God’s Love is Spiritual

This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
1 John 4:13-16 (NIV)

The Heart Of A Who: Encouragement: 1 Thessalonians 4:18

Therefore encourage one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4:18 (CSB)

But encourage each other daily…
Hebrews 3:13 (CSB)

Encouraging People…

1. Give Glory To God

From there they sailed back to Antioch where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. After they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported everything God had done with them and that he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. And they spent a considerable time with the disciples.
Acts 14:26-27 (CSB)

2. Inspire Faith Filled Living

For there was not a needy person among them because all those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of what was sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet. This was then distributed to each person as any had need. Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus by birth, the one the apostles called Barnabas (which is translated Son of Encouragement), sold a field he owned, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
Acts 4:34-37 (CSB)

3. See The Best In People

Now those who had been scattered as a result of the persecution that started because of Stephen made their way as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. But there were some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord. News about them reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to travel as far as Antioch. When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged all of them to remain true to the Lord with devoted hearts…
Acts 11:19-23 (CSB)

When he arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, since they did not believe he was a disciple. Barnabas, however, took him and brought him to the apostles and explained to them how Saul had seen the Lord on the road and that the Lord had talked to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken boldly in the name of Jesus. Saul was coming and going with them in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.
Acts 9:26-28 (CSB)

After some time had passed, Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s go back and visit the brothers and sisters in every town where we have preached the word of the Lord and see how they’re doing.” Barnabas wanted to take along John Mark. But Paul insisted that they should not take along this man who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone on with them to the work. They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed off to Cyprus.
Acts 15:36-41 (CSB)

The Heart Of A Who: Guidance: Romans 15:13-16

We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ.
Colossians 1:28 (NASB)

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. And concerning you, my brethren, I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able also to admonish one another. But I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God, to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13-16 (NASB)

How Should I Admonish/Guide Others?

1) Right Heart

Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears.
Acts 20:31 (NASB)

2) Right Knowledge

…I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able also to admonish one another.
Romans 15:14 (NASB)

3) Right Character

My brothers and sisters, I myself am convinced about you that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to instruct one another.
Romans 15:14 (CSB)

Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged.  For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use. Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye?  Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a beam of wood in your own eye? Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:1-5 (CSB)

The Heart of A Who: Honor: Romans 12:10

1. WHAT IS HONOR?

…Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10 (NIV)

2. WHO—HONOR ONE ANOTHER

…Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10 (NIV)

Honor Spouses

Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in

an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
1 Peter 3:7 (CSB)

Honor Parents/Children

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right.  Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.
Ephesians 6:1-3 (CSB)

Honor Spiritual Leaders

The elders who are good leaders are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says: Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain, and the worker is worthy of his wages.
1 Timothy 5:17-18 (CSB)

Honor Everyone

Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the Emperor.
1 Peter 2:17 (CSB)

3. HOW—PUTTING PEOPLE ABOVE SELF

…Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10 (NIV)

Marriage is to be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled…
Hebrews 13:4 (CSB)

The fear of the Lord is what wisdom teaches, and humility comes before honor.
Proverbs 15:33 (CSV)

Time To Prosper: Elevated By Favor: Genesis 39:2-4

The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, serving in the household of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made everything he did successful, Joseph found favor with his master and became his personal attendant. Potiphar also put him in charge of his household and placed all that he owned under his authority.
Genesis 39:2-4 (CSB)

1.  Stay Passionate About God’s Plans

Then Joseph had a dream. When he told it to his brothers, they hated him even more. He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: There we were, binding sheaves of grain in the field. Suddenly my sheaf stood up, and your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.” “Are you really going to reign over us?” his brothers asked him. “Are you really going to rule us?” So they hated him even more because of his dream and what he had said. Then he had another dream and told it to his brothers. “Look,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun, moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” He told his father and brothers, and his father rebuked him. “What kind of dream is this that you have had?” he said. “Am I and your mother and your brothers really going to come and bow down to the ground before you?” His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
Genesis 37:5-10 (CSB)

2.  Stay Focused on Personal Integrity

Now Joseph was well-built and handsome. After some time his master’s wife looked longingly at Joseph and said, “Sleep with me.” But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master’s wife, “with me here my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has put all that he owns under my authority. No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do this immense evil, and how could I sin against God?” Although she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her.
Genesis 39:6-10 (CSB)

But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result—the survival of many people. Therefore don’t be afraid. I will take care of you and your children.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
Genesis 50:20-21 (CSB)

3. Stay Strong Because Favor is Brutiful

Two sons were born to Joseph before the years of famine arrived. Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest at On, bore them to him. Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh and said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and my whole family.” And the second son he named Ephraim and said, “God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”
Genesis 41:50-52 (CSB)

Time To Prosper: Willing and Ready: 1 Chronicles 29:1-20

I can give with a willing heart when I believe…

1. The Task Is Great

Then King David said to all the assembly, “My son Solomon—God has chosen him alone—is young and inexperienced. The task is great because the building will not be built for a human but for the Lord God.”
1Chronicles 29:1 (CSB)

2. Everything Comes From God

But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your own hand.
1 Chronicles 29:14 (CSB)

‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty.
Haggai 2:8 (HCSB)

3. My Giving Is To The Lord

I know, my God, that you test the heart and that you are pleased with what is right. I have willingly given all these things with an upright heart, and now I have seen your people who are present here giving joyfully and willingly to you.
1 Chronicles 29:17 (CSB)

4. Everyone Plays A Part

Then David said to the whole assembly, “Blessed be the Lord your God.” So the whole assembly praised the Lord God of their ancestors. They knelt low and paid homage to the Lord and the king.
1 Chronicles 29:20 (CSB)

5. God Is Glorified

Then David said to the whole assembly, “Praise the Lord your God.” So the whole assembly praised the Lord God of their ancestors. They bowed down and paid homage to the Lord and the king.
1 Chronicles 29:20 (CSB)

Time To Prosper: No Really It’s Time: 1 Timothy 1:10-18

Give to him, and don’t have a stingy heart when you give, and because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you do.
Deuteronomy 15:10 (CSB)

Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest; then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
Proverbs 3:9-10 (CSB)

Dear friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and are in good health, just as your whole life is going well.
3 John 1:2 (CSB)

When I’m generous I can prosper by…

1. Growing in My Faith

Many rich people were putting in large sums. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two tiny coins worth very little. Summoning his disciples, he said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. For they all gave out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had —all she had to live on.”
Mark 12:41-44

2. Experiencing Great Joy

In every way I’ve shown you that it is necessary to help the weak by laboring like this and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Acts 20:35 (CSB)

3. Keeping My Heart Pure

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains… Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy. [Instruct them] to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, willing to share…
1 Timothy 1:10-18 (CSB)

4. Receiving God’s Blessings

But I have received everything in full, and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you provided—a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.  And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:18-19 (CSB)

Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over—will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
Luke 6:38 (CSB)

The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.
Proverbs 11:24-25 (MSG)

Solid: God’s Promises For Real Needs: Philippians 4:14-19

Still, you did well by partnering with me in my hardship. And you Philippians know that in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone.  For even in Thessalonica you sent gifts for my need several times.  Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the profit that is increasing to your account.  But I have received everything in full, and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you provided—a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.  And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Philippians 4:14-19 (CSB)

1.   God is concerned with my needs

And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Philippians 4:19 (CSB)

2.  God is able to meet my needs

And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Philippians 4:19 (CSB)

3.  God is involved in my needs

And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Philippians 4:19 (CSB)

A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water.
Proverbs 11:25 (CSB)

On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.

Solid: God’s Promises For Anxious Hearts: Philippians 4:6-8

1.   Focus Your Prayers

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

Pray without ceasing.
1Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)

2.  Focus Your Actions

Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:9 (NLT)

3.  Focus Your Thoughts

And now, dear brothers and sisters let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

The Lord Goes…

1. Before Me—He’s My Leader

“The Lord is the one who will go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 (CSB)

Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness; make a straight highway for our God in the desert.  Every valley will be lifted up, and every mountain and hill will be leveled; the uneven ground will become smooth and the rough places, a plain.  And the glory of the Lord will appear, and all humanity together will see it, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
Isaiah 40:4-5 (CSB)

2. Behind Me—He’s My Protector

The Lord will deal with them as he did Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and their land when he destroyed them. The Lord will deliver them over to you, and you must do to them exactly as I have commanded you.
Deuteronomy 31:4-5 (CSB)

But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen and guard you from the evil one.
2 Thessalonians 3:3 (CSB)

The Lord himself watches over you!  The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.
Psalm 121:5 (NLT)

3. Beside Me—He’s My Encourager

“…Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.”

The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”
Acts 23:11 (NIV)

4. Beneath Me—He’s My Supporter

“…Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 (CSB)

But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen and guard you from the evil one.

Solid: God’s Promises For Tough Times: Jeremiah 29:4-14

1. I Am Never Forgotten

For I know the plans I have for you”-[this is] the Lord’s declaration-“plans for [your] welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (CSB)

2.  I Am Full of Hope

For I know the plans I have for you”-[this is] the Lord’s declaration-“plans for [your] welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (CSB)

3. I Am Blessed While I Wait

This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the exiles I deported from Jerusalem to Babylon: “Build houses and live in them. Plant gardens and eat their produce.  Find wives for yourselves and have sons and daughters. Find wives for your sons and give your daughters to men in marriage so that they may bear sons and daughters. Multiply there; do not decrease.  Pursue the well-being of the city I have deported you to. Pray to the Lord on its behalf, for when it thrives, you will thrive.”
Jeremiah 29:4-7 (CSB)

4. I Am Heard By God

You will call to me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.

Miracles: Frustrated With God: John 11:1-45

A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha. 2This is the Mary who later poured the expensive perfume on the Lord’s feet and wiped them with her hair. Her brother, Lazarus, was sick. 3So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.”4But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” 5So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, 6he stayed where he was for the next two days.
John 11:1-6 (NLT)

Jesus responds to my hurt, anger and confusion…

1) With Compassion and Comfort

When Jesus saw her crying, and the Jews who had come with her crying, He was angry in His spirit and deeply moved. 34 “Where have you put him?” He asked. “Lord,” they told Him, “come and see.” 35 Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”
John 11:33-36 (CSB)

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses…
Hebrews 4:15 (ESV)

2) With Correction and Direction

Then Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died. Yet even now I know that whatever You ask from God, God will give You.”
John 11:21-22 (CSB)

Then Jesus, angry in Himself again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. 39″Remove the stone,” Jesus said. Martha, the dead man’s sister, told Him, “Lord, he already stinks. It’s been four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
John 11:38-40 (CSB)

3) With Purpose and Power

Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You heard Me. 42 I know that You always hear Me, but because of the crowd standing here I said this, so they may believe You sent Me.” 43After He said this, He shouted with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out bound hand and foot with linen strips and with his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him and let him go. 45 Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what He did believed in Him.
John 11:40-45 (CSB)

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.
John 11:25

Miracles: He Opened My Eyes: Mark 10:46-52

He opened my eyes…

To Hope

They came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many warned him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more, “Have mercy on me, Son of David.”
Mark 10:46-48 (CSB)

To Courage

Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man and said to him, “Have courage! Get up; he’s calling for you.”
Mark 10:49 (CSB)

To Compassion

Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they followed him.
Matthew 20:34 (CSB)

To Faith

He threw off his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus. 51 Then Jesus answered him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Rabboni,”[l] the blind man said to him, “I want to see.”52 Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has saved you.” Immediately he could see and began to follow Jesus on the road.

Miracles: The Messages In The Miracle: Luke 5:1-11

1.  Jesus Uses The Unexpected

As the crowd was pressing in on Jesus to hear God’s word, he was standing by Lake Gennesaret. He saw two boats at the edge of the lake; the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the land. Then he sat down and was teaching the crowds from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”
Luke 5:1-4 (CSB)

2.  Jesus Seeks Our Surrender

“Master,” Simon replied, “we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I’ll let down the nets.”
Luke 5:5 (CSB)

3.  Jesus Blesses Beyond Belief

When they did this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets began to tear. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
Luke 5:6-7 (CSB)

4.  Jesus Performs To Preach

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!”  For he and all those with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s partners.  “Don’t be afraid,” Jesus told Simon. “From now on you will be catching people.” Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed him.
Luke 5:8-11 (CSB)

Miracles: The Touch: Mark 5:21-43

When Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a large crowdgathered around him while he was by the sea. 22 One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet 23 and begged him earnestly, “My little daughter is dying. Come and lay your hands on her so that she can get well and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd was following and pressing against him.25 Now a woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years 26 had endured much under many doctors. She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse. 27 Having heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothing. 28 For she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I’ll be made well.” 29 Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
Mark 5:21-29 (CSB)

1. I Can Touch Jesus in Faith

2. Jesus Can Touch Me in Mercy

While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher anymore?”36 When Jesus overheard[c] what was said, he told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe.” 37 He did not let anyone accompany him except Peter, James, and John, James’s brother. 38 They came to the leader’s house, and he saw a commotion—people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 They laughed at him, but he put them all outside. He took the child’s father, mother, and those who were with him, and entered the place where the child was. 41 Then he took the child by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum”which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, get up”). 42 Immediately the girl got upand began to walk. (She was twelve years old.) At this they were utterly astounded.

Champion: Whatever Faith: Hebrews 11:32-40

1. God Uses All Kinds of People

And what more can I say? Time is too short for me to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets.
Hebrews 11:32 (CSB)

2. God Uses All Kinds of Problems

…who by faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the raging of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, gained strength in weakness, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight. Women received their dead, raised to life again.
Hebrews 11:33-35 (CSB)

Champion: The Power Of Everybody: Hebrews 11:30-31

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after being marched around by the Israelites for seven days. By faith Rahab the prostitute welcomed the spies in peace and didn’t perish with those who disobeyed.
Hebrews 11:30-31 (CSB)

Now Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites-no one leaving or entering. The Lord said to Joshua, “Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its fighting men over to you.  March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days.
Joshua 6:1-3 (CSB)

1. Everybody Worships

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”“Neither,” he replied. “I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.” Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked him, “What does my lord want to say to his servant?”The commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did that.
Joshua 5:13-14 (CSB)

Early on the seventh day, they started at dawn and marched around the city seven times in the same way. That was the only day they marched around the city seven times.  After the seventh time, the priests blew the trumpets, and Joshua said to the troops, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city…So the troops shouted, and the trumpets sounded. When they heard the blast of the trumpet, the troops gave a great shout, and the wall collapsed.
Joshua 6:15-20 (CSB)

2.  Everybody Marches

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after being marched around by the Israelites for seven days.
Hebrews 11:30 (CSB)

And he ordered the army, “Advance! March around the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark of the Lord.”
Joshua 6:7 (NIV)

Champion: Time To Decide: Hebrews 11:23-29

By faith Moses, after he was born, was hidden by his parents for three months, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they didn’t fear the king’s edict.
Hebrews 11:23 (CSB)

Faith…

1.        Chooses

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter and chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the short-lived pleasure of sin.
Hebrews 11:24-25 (CSB)

2.         Thinks

For he considered reproach for the sake of the Messiah to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, since his attention was on the reward.
Hebrews 11:26 (CSB)

3.         Leaves

By faith he left Egypt behind, not being afraid of the king’s anger, for he persevered, as one who sees Him who is invisible.
Hebrews 11:27 (CSB)

4.         Practices

By faith he instituted the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them. By faith they crossed the Red Sea as though they were on dry land. When the Egyptians attempted to do this, they were drowned.

Champion: Don’t Let Anyone Steal Your Dreams: Hebrews 11:22

https://vimeo.com/284996224

By faith Joseph, as he was nearing the end of his life, mentioned the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions concerning his bones.
Hebrews 11:22 (CSB)

1.         Discover Your Dreams

Then Joseph had a dream. When he told it to his brothers, they hated him even more. 6 He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: 7 There we were, binding sheaves of grain in the field. Suddenly my sheaf stood up, and your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.”8 “Are you really going to reign over us?” his brothers asked him. “Are you really going to rule us?” So they hated him even more because of his dream and what he had said.9 Then he had another dream and told it to his brothers. “Look,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun, moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”10 He told his father and brothers, and his father rebuked him. “What kind of dream is this that you have had?” he said. “Am I and your mother and your brothers really going to come and bow down to the ground before you?” 11 His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
Genesis 37:5-11 (CSB)

But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? 20 You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result—the survival of many people. 21 Therefore don’t be afraid. I will take care of you and your children.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
Genesis 50:19-21 (CSB)

2.         Hang On To Your Dreams

…So Joseph was there in prison.  But the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him. He granted him favor with the prison warden. 22 The warden put all the prisoners who were in the prison under Joseph’s authority, and he was responsible for everything that was done there. 23 The warden did not bother with anything under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him, and the Lord made everything that he did successful.
Genesis 39:20-23 (CSB)

3.         Help Others Fulfill Their Dreams

Then the chief cupbearer said to Pharaoh, “Today I remember my faults.  Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and he put me and the chief baker in the custody of the captain of the guards.  He and I had dreams on the same night; each dream had its own meaning.  Now a young Hebrew, a slave of the captain of the guards, was with us there. We told him our dreams, he interpreted our dreams for us, and each had its own interpretation.  It turned out just the way he interpreted them to us: I was restored to my position, and the other man was hanged.”
Genesis 41:9-13 (CSB)

4.         Finish Your Dreams

By faith Joseph, as he was nearing the end of his life, mentioned the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions concerning his bones.
Hebrews 11:22 (CSB)

Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will certainly come to your aid and bring you up from this land to the land he swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”  So Joseph made the sons of Israel take an oath: “When God comes to your aid, you are to carry my bones up from here.” Joseph died at the age of 110. They embalmed him and placed him in a coffin in Egypt.

Champion: Faith For The Rest Of Us: Hebrews 11:20

1.Trusts in God’s Plans and Purposes

By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
Hebrews 11:20 (CSB)

2. Acknowledges My Wins and Losses

When the men of the place asked about his wide he said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “my wife,” thinking, “the men of the place will kill me on account of Rebekah, for she is a beautiful woman.” When Isaac had been there for some time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked down from the window and was surprised to see Isaac caressing his wife Rebekah. Abimelech sent for Isaac and said, “So she is really your wide! How could you say, “She is my sister’?” Isaac answered him, “Because I thought I might die on account of her.”
Genesis 26:7-9 (CSB)

From there he went up to Beer-sheba and the Lord appeared to him that night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your offspring because of my servant Abraham. So he built an alter there, called on the name of the Lord, and pitched his tent here. Isaac’s servants also dug a well there.
Genesis 26:23-25 (CSB)

3. Celebrates My Strengths and Weaknesses

But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen and said, “The water us ours!” So he named the well Esek because they argued with him. Then they dug another well and quarreled over that one also, so he named it Sitnah. He moved from there and dug another, and they did not quarrel over it. He named it Rehoboth and said, “For now the Lord has made space for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”

Champion: ABC’s Of Faith: Hebrews 11:8-19

Faith…

1. Answers the Call

By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and set out for a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Hebrews 11:8-10 (CSB)

The Lord said to Abram: Go out from your land, your relatives, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
Genesis 12:1-2 (CSB)

2. Believes the Promise

By faith even Sarah herself, when she was unable to have children, received power to conceive offspring, even though she was past the age, since she considered that the one who has promised was faithful. Therefore, from one man—in fact, from one as good as dead—came offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and as innumerable as the grains of sand along the seashore.
Hebrews 11:11-12 (CSB)

God said to Abraham, “As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai, for Sarah will be her name. I will bless her; indeed, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will produce nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a hundred-year-old man? Can Sarah, a ninety-year-old woman, give birth?”
Genesis 17:15-17 (CSB)

3. Conquers the Test

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac. He received the promises and yet he was offering his one and only son, the one to whom it had been said, your offspring will be called through Isaac. He considered God to be able to even raise someone from the dead; therefore, he received him back, figuratively speaking.
Hebrews 11:17-19 (CSB)

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?… No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Champion: Unsinkable Faith: Hebrews 11:7

https://vimeo.com/277893473

By faith Noah, after being warned about what was not yet seen, in reverence built an ark to deliver his family. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Hebrews 11:7 (CSB)

An Unsinkable Faith Requires Me to…

1. Do The Ordinary Before I can Experience The Extraordinary

These are the family records of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries; Noah walked with God. And Noah fathered three sons; Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Genesis 6:9-10 (CSB)

If you are faithful in the little things, you will be faithful in the large ones.
Luke 16:10 (NLT)

2. Embrace The Unpopular So I Can Become The Influencer

When the Lord saw that human wickedness was widespread on the Earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time, the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and he was deeply grieved. Then the Lord said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I created, off the face of the earth, together with the animals, creatures that crawl, and birds of the sky-for I regret that I made them” Noah. However, found favor with the Lord.
Genesis 6:5-8 (CSB)

Then the Lord said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you alone are righteous before me in this generation…So Noah, his wife, and his sons’ wives entered the ark because of the floodwaters.
Genesis 7:1-7 (CSB)

3.  Believe The Improbable Before I Can Do The Impossible

By faith Noah, after he warned about what was not yet seen and motivated by godly fear, built an ark to deliver his family.
Hebrews 11:7a (CSB)

Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it with pitch inside and outside. This is how you are to make it: The ark will be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high… And Noah did this. He did everything that God had commanded him.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (CSB)

For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:21 (ESV)

2) Teaches Me

…and is profitable for teaching…
2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

3) Corrects Me

…and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness…
2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

4) Trains Me

…and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness…
2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.  But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
1 Timothy 6:10-11 (NIV)

5) Matures Me

Illuminate: Tasty: 1 Peter 2:1-3; Psalm 34:8

Spiritual Growth Happens by…

1. Seeing That God Is Good

If you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
1 Peter 2:1-3 (NASB)

Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Psalm 34:8 (NIV)

2. Ridding Yourself of Sin

Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander…
1 Peter 2:1 (NASB)

3. Craving Spiritual Milk

Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
1 Peter 2:1-3 (NASB)

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.
1 Peter 1:22-25 (NIV)

All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2. Releases My Stress

I am severely afflicted; Lord, give me life through Your word. Lord, please accept my willing offerings of praise, and teach me Your judgments. My life is constantly in danger, yet I do not forget Your instruction. The wicked have set a trap for me, but I have not wandered from Your precepts.
Psalm 119:107-110 (CSB)

Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4 (CSB)

Monopoly: I’m So Blessed: Acts 20:35

1. Generosity Gives Me Tremendous Freedom

“…remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Acts 20:35 (CSB)

I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.
Acts 20:33 (CSB)

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for more money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV)

2.  Generosity Helps Me Make An Eternal Impact

“Don’t store up for yourselves treasures[a] on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal.”
Matthew 6:19-20 (CSB)

Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life. Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge.
1 Timothy 6:18-20 (NLT)

3.  Generosity Makes Me Like Christ

“…remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Acts 20:35 (CSB)

For God so love the world that he gave his one and only Son…
John 3:16 (NIV)

4.  Generosity Empowers Me To Be Blessed

Monopoly: My Faith My Fuel: Proverbs 3:9-10

I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:18-19 (NIV)

By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.
Hebrews 11:4 (NIV)

1. My Faith Honors The Lord

Honor the Lord with your wealth…
Proverbs 3:9 (NIV)

2. My Faith Helps Me Rethink My Priorities

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.
Proverbs 3:9 (NIV)

Now if the firstfruits offered up are holy, so is the whole batch. And if the root is holy, so are the branches.
Romans 11:16 (CSB)

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21 (CSB)

Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me.  Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. “Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
Malachi 3:8-9 (NIV)

3. My Faith Hastens God’s Blessings

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
Proverbs 3:9-10 (NIV)

The point is this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously.
2 Corinthians 9:6 (CSB)

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.
Luke 6:38 (ESV)

Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add one moment to his life-span by worrying?

A New Hope: Anchored To Hope: Hebrews 6:13-20

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
Hebrews 6:19 (CSB)

How Do I Stay Anchored To Hope…

1. Focus Intently

For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater to swear by, he swore by himself: I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply you.
Hebrews 6:13-14 (CSB)

2. Wait Patiently

And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.
Hebrews 6:15 (CSB)

3. Connect Spiritually

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain. Jesus has entered there on our behalf as a forerunner, because he has become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 6:19-20 (CSB)

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.

A New Hope: Roll With It: Luke 24:1-27

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb.  They went in but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
Luke 24:1-3 (CSB)

I have a new hope because…

1. MY DISAPPOINTMENT HAS BEEN ROLLED AWAY

But we were hoping that he was the one who was about to redeem Israel. Besides all this, it’s the third day since these things happened.
Luke 24:21 (CSB)

Having said this, he showed them his hands and his side. So the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
John 20:20 (CSB)

2. MY DOUBT HAS BEEN ROLLED AWAY

Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.
Luke 24:27 (CSB)

But Thomas, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples were telling him, “We’ve seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “If I don’t see the mark of the nails in his hands, put my finger into the mark of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will never believe.”
John 20:24-25 (CSB)

When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
Matthew 28:17 (NIV)

3. MY DEFEAT HAS BEEN ROLLED AWAY

Peter’s Second Chance “Lord,” Peter asked, “why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
John 13:37 (CSB)

But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there just as he told you.’

4. MY DEATH HAS BEEN ROLLED AWAY

He is not here! For He has been resurrected, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.

Powerhouse: Bouncing Back: Joshua 7:1-8:29

1)         Deal With Your Past

They chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the stone quarries and struck them down on the slopes. At this the hearts of the people melted in fear and became like water.
Joshua 7:5 (NIV)

Joshua said, “Why have you brought us trouble? Today the Lord will bring you trouble!” So all Israel stoned them to death. They burned their bodies, threw stones on them, and raised over him a large pile of rocks that remains still today.
Joshua 7:25-26 (CSB)

The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take all the troops with you and go attack Ai. Look, I have handed over to you the king of Ai, his people, city, and land.
Joshua 8:1 (CSB)

2)         Refocus On Your Future

Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands the king of Ai, his people, his city and his land…Set an ambush behind the city.
Joshua 8:1-2 (NIV)

Even if good people fall seven times, they will get back up. But when trouble strikes the wicked, that’s the end of them.
Proverbs 24:16 (CEV)

3)         Act In The Present

You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.
Joshua 8:2 (NIV)

So Joshua and the whole military force set out to attack Ai. Joshua selected 30,000 fighting men and sent them out at night.
Joshua 8:3 (CSB)

Joshua burned Ai and left it a permanent ruin, desolate to this day.
Joshua 8:28 (CSB)

Powerhouse: Ready For Victory: Joshua 6

So the troops shouted, and the trumpets sounded. When they heard the blast of the trumpet, the troops gave a great shout, and the wall collapsed. The troops advanced into the city, each man straight ahead, and they captured the city.
Joshua 6:20 (CSB)

3 Things You Need To Know About Living Victoriously

1. God Is With Us In Our Battles

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?” 14″Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.” Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked Him, “What does my Lord want to say to His servant?” 15 The commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
Joshua 5:13-15 (CSB)

2. God Gives Us A Winning Plan

The Lord said to Joshua, “Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its fighting men over to you.”
Joshua 6:2 (CSB)

A. Believe

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after being marched around by the Israelites for seven days.
Hebrews 11:30 (NIV)

B. Talk To God

C. Don’t Stop

D. Keep Silent

E. Shout For Victory In Faith
“…March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry seven ram’s-horn trumpets in front of the ark. But on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the trumpets. 5 When there is a prolonged blast of the horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. Then the city wall will collapse, and the people will advance, each man straight ahead.”
Joshua 6:3-5 (CSB)

3. God is Both Tough and Tender

They burned up the city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the Lord’s house. But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, her father’s household, and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent to spy on Jericho, and she lives in Israel to this day.

Powerhouse: Shame No More: Joshua 5:1-9

When all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings who lived along the Mediterranean coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan River so the people of Israel could cross, they lost heart and were paralyzed with fear because of them. At that time the Lord told Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise this second generation of Israelites.” So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the entire male population of Israel at Gibeath-haaraloth. Joshua had to circumcise them because all the men who were old enough to fight in battle when they left Egypt had died in the wilderness. Those who left Egypt had all been circumcised, but none of those born after the Exodus, during the years in the wilderness, had been circumcised. The Israelites had traveled in the wilderness for forty years until all the men who were old enough to fight in battle when they left Egypt had died. For they had disobeyed the Lord, and the Lord vowed he would not let them enter the land he had sworn to give us—a land flowing with milk and honey. So Joshua circumcised their sons—those who had grown up to take their fathers’ places—for they had not been circumcised on the way to the Promised Land. After all the males had been circumcised, they rested in the camp until they were healed. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the shame of your slavery in Egypt.” So that place has been called Gilgal to this day.
Joshua 5:1-9 (NLT)

1.         WHY IS SHAME SUCH A HUGE PROBLEM

When the pain of your past is in your present it will conform your past to your future.

2.         WHAT SYMBOLS HAS GOD GIVEN US TO OVERCOME SHAME.

At that time the Lord told Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise this second generation of Israelites.”
Joshua 5:2 (NLT)

When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.   You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sin. sins.
Colossians 2:10-13 (NLT)

On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover.
Joshua 5:10 (NIV)

This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.
Exodus 12:14 (NIV)

In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
1 Corinthians 11:25-26 (NIV)

3.         HOW CAN MY SHAME BE REMOVED

Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the shame of your slavery in Egypt.” So that place has been called Gilgal to this day.
Joshua 5:9 (NLT)

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:6 (NIV)

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:1-2 (CSB)

Powerhouse: Do You Have The Stones: Joshua 4:1-24

1.  Do You Have The Stones To Remember

In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ 7 you should tell them, ‘The water of the Jordan was cut off in front of the ark of the Lord’s covenant. When it crossed the Jordan, the Jordan’s water was cut off.’ Therefore these stones will always be a memorial for the Israelites.”
Joshua 4:6-7 (CSB)

“In the future, when your children ask their fathers, ‘What is the meaning of these stones?’ 22 you should tell your children, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the water of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, just as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up before us until we had crossed over. 24 This is so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord’s hand is mighty, and so that you may always fear the Lord your God.”
Joshua 4:21-24 (CSB)

Remember…
(1)       Special Places
(2)       Special Events
(3)       Special Times
(4)       Special Objects
(5)       Special Meanings

This is so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord’s hand is mighty, and so that you may always fear the Lord your God.”
Joshua 4:24 (CSB)

2.         Do You Have The Stones To Share What You Remember

Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110… That whole generation was also gathered to their ancestors. After them another generation rose up who did not know the Lord or the works he had done for Israel.
Judges 2:8, 10 (CSB)

Powerhouse: Get Ready, Get Ready, Get Ready: Joshua 3:1-17

To Possess Everything God Has For Me I Must…

1. Prepare For The Movement of God

Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, because the Lordwill do wonders among you tomorrow.”
Joshua 3:5 (CSB)

Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also those of wood and clay; some for honorable use and some for dishonorable. So if anyone purifies himself from anything dishonorable, he will be a special instrument, set apart, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
2 Timothy 2:20-21 (CSB)

2. Follow The Movement of God

“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God carried by the Levitical priests, you are to break camp and follow it.
Joshua 3:3 (CSB)

When the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of the covenant ahead of the people. Now the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest season. But as soon as the priests carrying the ark reached the Jordan, their feet touched the water at its edge and the water flowing downstream stood still, rising up in a mass that extended as far as Adam, a city next to Zarethan. The water flowing downstream into the Sea of the Arabah—the Dead Sea—was completely cut off, and the people crossed opposite Jericho.  The priests carrying the ark of the Lord’s covenant stood firmly on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel crossed on dry ground until the entire nation had finished crossing the Jordan.
Joshua 3:14-17 (CSB)

Powerhouse: Rethinking Risk: Joshua 2:1-26

In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works in receiving the messengers and sending them out by a different route?
James 2:25 (CSB)

By faith Rahab the prostitute welcomed the spies in peace and didn’t perish with those who disobeyed.
Hebrews 11:31 (CSB)

I Must Embrace Risk By…

1.      Taking New Ground

Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men as spies from the from Shittim saying, “Go and scout the land, especially Jericho.” So they left, and they came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab, and stayed there.
Joshua 2:1 (CSB)

2.      Opposing The Crowd

The king of Jericho was told, “Look, some of the Israelite men have come here tonight to investigate the land.” Then the king of Jericho sent word to Rahab and said, “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, for they came to investigate the entire land.” But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them.  So she said, “Yes, the men did come to me, but I didn’t know where they were from.  At nightfall, when the city gate was about to close, the men went out, and I don’t know where they were going. Chase after them quickly, and you can catch up with them!” But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them among the stalks of flax that she had arranged on the roof.  The men pursued them along the road to the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as they left to pursue J them, the city gate was shut.
Joshua 2:4-7 (CSB)

3.      Saving My Family

The men said to her, “We will be free from this oath you made us swear, unless, when we enter the land, you tie this scarlet cord to the window through which you let us down. Bring your father, mother, brothers, and all your father’s family into your house.
Joshua 2:17-18 (CSB)

Centennial Churches

"The king asked, 'Well, how do I help you' With a prayer to the God of heaven, I replied, 'If it please the king and when you're happy with me, your slave, send me to Judah to rebuild the city where my ancestors have been buried' The king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked, 'How long are you going to be gone? When are you going to return?' I also said to the king, 'If it please the king, then I would like to own personalities addressed to the governors of the state west of the Euphrates River, teaching them to allow me to traveling safely during their lands in my method to Judah. And provide me a letter addressed to Asaph, the manager of the king's woods, teaching him to provide me wood. I be needing it to produce beams for the gates of the Temple fortress, such as the city walls, and also for a house to myself'

A God-sized vision consistently has God's favor. By the narrative above we observe the God's gracious hand has been on Nehemiah, Aurora CO Church and king Asaph perhaps not only lucky the vision to reconstruct the city of Jerusalem, but covered this too!

We desire God's favor in order to shake the city. In Edge Church, we've got a more God-sized vision to shake up city. You wish to get a spiritual effect on the city at which unions are increasingly being rescued, habits are broken and lives are radically changed. Area of the plan to achieve our community is via the purchase of the construction. This vision will probably allow us to shake the city when based on Him. Are you currently really part of the vision? Ask God what you can do in order to contribute your vision of discussing the life-changing elegance of Jesus Christ.
